The origin of our butterfly wings.

All the butterflies we work with, have been sourced and prepared with the utmost care and responsibility. They have lived their full lifespan and passed naturally. We partner with one of the most respected taxidermy companies in the Netherlands, known for their dedication to butterfly conservation and rainforest preservation in various parts of the world. By purchasing from us, you’re not just getting a beautiful piece of jewelry, you’re also supporting local communities and contributing to global nature conservation efforts.

All of our butterflies lived in conservation farms across the world. They come from Peru, Costa Rica, Surinam, Thailand, Malaysia, Congo, Indonesia and Belgium. Our partner has personally visited each butterfly farm, ensuring that all the butterflies we offer are sourced responsibly and the farms meet the quality standards. These farms (which cover a huge number of football fields) create an eco-friendly habitat which are not only beneficial for the butterfly population, but also help protect the rainforests with its plants, flowers, trees and other living species.

In developing countries, where the majority of threatened rainforest habitat is, the difficulty of protecting forests is due to a lack of economic opportunities for local people. Unfortunately, earning a living in these areas almost always involves agricultural farming, cattle ranching, or logging, all of which lead to severe deforestation and animal extinction.

Butterfly farming, on the other hand, is dependent upon native plant species and a butterfly farmer must keep areas of land intact to provide a food source for the caterpillars.

The practice of butterfly farming is unique because it combines economic development and conservation. When introduced as an alternative sustainable income to local farmers, it can have a profound impact on the environment and communities!

Most butterflies have a lifespan of just one to two weeks. After they pass naturally, they are carefully collected and preserved. This is when they are sent over to our studio.
