This Arhopala Araxes is adorned in UV-protected, anti-reflective Art Glass and Sterling Silver. Our local glass artisan and goldsmith spent hours crafting this piece, carefully adapting to the unique shape of this wing. As a result, no traditional casting molds were used - only handcrafted techniques. It is truly a labor of love and a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry!
More about this beauty:
The Arhopala araxes makes its home in the lush rainforests of Indonesia, where it shows a particular interest in oak tree groves - a trait that’s earned it the nickname “oakblue.” Active during the day, it’s often seen basking in sunny patches, pausing just long enough to sip nectar before darting off again.
Its flight is quick and purposeful - not flashy, but deliberate, as if it always knows exactly where it’s headed next. And when it finally decides to rest, its clever camouflage keeps it safely hidden from predators. Once the wings fold shut, that dazzling blue vanishes, replaced by soft, earthy browns with subtle details - the perfect disguise against the forest floor. The Arhopala araxes is a master of contrast, moving gracefully between presence and disappearance, never staying too long in either one.
Sourcing:
All the butterflies we work with have been sourced and prepared with the utmost care and responsibility. They have lived their full lifespan and passed naturally. Learn more here.
Important note:
Make sure your jewelry stays completely dry. Water can seep beneath the glass and cause serious damage to the butterfly wing inside. This may result in moisture build-up or visible condensation, which can harm the organic material and accelerate deterioration. Keeping your piece dry is essential to preserving its natural beauty.
